Welcome to Headstrong Bindis

** NEW BINDIS ADDED - 17.06.09 **

The bindi is a mark of feminine divinity.  It reputedly makes a woman beautiful and shields her from ill omens.  Generally, it is thought the bindi becomes the powerful third eye of her very being.

The area between the eyebrows (the most common place a bindi is worn) is said to be the sixth chakra, Ajna, the seat of "concealed wisdom".  According to followers of Tantrism this chakra is the exit point for kundalin energy.  It is said when kundalini energy rises through the body, wearing a bindi is thought to prevent the exit of this energy and aid concentration in meditation and other devotional practices, retaining the energy and strengthening concentration.  It is also said to protect against demons or bad luck.

The bindi looks like a star on the forehead, enlightening the face.

"Pottu vaitha oru vatta nilaa"

This beautiful Tamil line of the famous South Indian poet Vairamuthu means "Here comes one moon with a bindi on her forehead" - it describes the divine beauty of a woman's face as the moon, wearing a bindi.

In modern times the bindi is used by women and girls of all religions.  It has become very much a fashion accessory and the traditional round shape has undergone radical changes, many of which you will see in the following pages.

I hope you see something sparkly that ignites a spark in you.  I love creating them, it's very relaxing and calming and I believe a little bit of gentle energy passes into each one as they are made, which is passed on to the wearer - spreading the sparkle magic.

All bindis are reusable, over and over again.  With a little gentle TLC your bindi can be worn many times, I've had some of mine for well over a year, although eventually bits will start dropping off as they age and the adhesive tires.  My sparkles are not self adhesive and you will need to purchase some spirit gum (recommended, especially for the heavier, more jewelled bindis) or eyelash glue to be able to wear them.  I can personally vouch for Rubie's gum.  As long as you give it enough time to dry completely it will stick a sideboard to your forehead, should you so wish!!  (NB: Setting can take a while with very heavy bindis, :o) just hold it in place gently and be patient, oh, and don't frown, the crinkling of the brow will interfere with the adhesion process)

If you purchase a sparkly and shortly afterwards something does drop off or fall out, please get in touch and let me know.  My bindis are very often made with vintage and/or recycled jewellery and while I do my best to try to ensure this won't happen, it sometimes does due to the age or intricacy of the parts.  I will always do what I can to sort the sparkly out. Happy customer, happy sparkly, happy me!

I'm on Tribe.net, if you'd like to pop over and say hi there, I'm known as Pippy and I have a Headstrong Tribe there too. I can ALWAYS be found on Facebook, which is usually the first place that brand new sparkles are uploaded ~:o)
