Welcome to Headstrong Bindis** new bindis added - 19.11.08 ** The bindi is the mark of feminine divinity. It reputedly makes a woman beautiful and shields her from ill omens. Generally, the bindi becomes the powerful third eye of her very being. The area between the eyebrows (the most common place a bindi is worn) is said to be the sixth chakra, Aina, the seat of "concealed wisdom". According to followers of Tantrism this chakra is the exit point for kundalin energy. The bindi is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration. It is also said to protect against demons or bad luck. The bindi looks like a star on the forehead, enlightening the face of a woman. "Pottu vaitha oru vatta nilaa" This beautiful Tamil line of the famous South Indian poet Vairamuthu means "Here comes one moon with a bindi on her forehead" - it describes the divine beauty of a woman's face as the moon wearing a bindi. In modern times the bindi is used by women and girls of all religions. It has become very much a fashion accessory and the traditional round shape has undergone radical changes, many of which you will see in the following pages. I hope you see something sparkly that ignites a spark in you. I love creating the sparklies, it's very relaxing and calming and I believe a little bit of gentle energy passes into each one as they are made.
